How can I need a journalist if I’m surrounded by citizen journalists?

If the is any of the people relaying on journalists even after the introduction  of social media’s and smart phones if I were you I would feel  ashamed especially for people situated in urban areas because you among the consumers that always get late news.

Anyone in this age of social media can be citizen journalist and a reporter. Because people who use social media have an easy access in reaching the number of people at the same time, even better they using social media’s that among the best mass communication strategies globally to name the few Facebook and twitter. Two weeks back I was running an observation that was helping me out to understand how do so many people reach eye witness news so fast that even before the media broadcasters’ have reached the activity or journalist have written an article. The answer I got was that in this modern age every individual share anything  abnormal, hilarious which occurs around them. And have started to recognise how much credit is given to every main source. Here is a important link from highly ranked sources agreeing with me journalists need to close the gap if the are to be important in this age

According to    Bivins, T.H. (2014). 8th Edition. Public relations writing: The essentials of style and format. New York: Mc Graw Hill.  Journalist involves a good writer or a news researcher that searchers news from different sources combining a perfect match and sharing it with the public. What would you say if I’m telling you that we live in the world where people recognise the opportunity of making money or creating a living threw selling and sharing news? So  me as a web 2.0 user I search news by scrolling down threw my social networks such as twitter and Facebook collect from different sources that posted about the same topic and share how I understand the statements and create myself a source by doing so .it’s possible that I’m also a journalist of different type. Just imagine how many people are doing the same thing as mine and tell me we still need journalists in the age of social media? Because I disagree and say we don’t need them

  1. very well said, social media have created a global village whereby people can connect and share instant information and current events rather than relying on journalists for information.

    1. you just hit it on the head with a hummer even thou we don't have full control over the information but we have that little control that makes things hard for journalists

  2. I couldn't agree more with you man, with the advent of social networks we can read the news that we specifically like and we can fetch directly from the internet, without the worry of waiting for the 7pm bulletin. Journalists and their gatekeepers have always dictated what we hear in a space of 30 minutes, surely some information is deemed to be unimportant but we will find on the net still.

  4. I also agree with Mr. Donald we do still need journalism in this age, because not everyone can utilize the social media effectively there are still people who depend heavily on journalist's articles as news.

  7. One can say that traditional media is dying but, I think that there are those people who still prefer to watch the news and go buy the newspaper. Not everyone has been swallowed by the digital media.

  9. Quite Insightful points you made Mr Fafuli, But I still think we need Journalists to make sense of all the feeds we get from the net. And Journalists should work hand-in-hand with Social Media to ensure it sustainability. Great blog though.
