Public relations is the bible of media when it comes to helping sports teams rebrand it’s like being born again

It is the power of Public Relations that whisper the sports team’s names in our ears from every angle of communication, to inject their names in our ears and it creates music that is impossible to ignore.

Rebranding a sports team can be defined as a process in which new designs, name, logo and colours of the team image are newly established with the intention of developing a new identity in the minds of the consumers, investors and competitors.  Most sports teams, they rebrand to distance themselves from the negative news of their previous brand.  And sports teams’ news are different from day to day national news. Every negative or positive statement that is pointed out in every sports team is discussed in their meetings.  Majority of non-sport followers don’t know that rebranding consists of ideas from the fans that don’t have the power to make their voices heard, which is why Public Relations is regarded as power in guiding the process of rebranding in sports teams.  For instance, let us analyse Platinum Stars the SA football team.  They were previously known as Silver Stars from North West with their colours of red and black which was a small team with a small group of supporters.  But along the way, the team started losing supporters and their status of playing in top flights of the South African soccer team causing the management to rethink their way of branding.  The team in the year 2007 changed their name to Platinum Stars FC using their now famous colour combination of dark blue and light green and also changed the design of their logo.  Things started heating up when their Public Relations team went out to the supporters to help out in nicknaming the football club and choosing their favourite stadium of choice.  Therefore, those PR activities brought a close relationship between management of the team and supporters causing the rebranding of the team a success because they started winning trophies and reaching the highest position.  Which is why now their nickname “dikwena”is music to our ears. How can I need a journalist if I’m surrounded by citizen journalists?

If the is any of the people relaying on journalists even after the introduction  of social media’s and smart phones if I were you I would feel  ashamed especially for people situated in urban areas because you among the consumers that always get late news.

Anyone in this age of social media can be citizen journalist and a reporter. Because people who use social media have an easy access in reaching the number of people at the same time, even better they using social media’s that among the best mass communication strategies globally to name the few Facebook and twitter. Two weeks back I was running an observation that was helping me out to understand how do so many people reach eye witness news so fast that even before the media broadcasters’ have reached the activity or journalist have written an article. The answer I got was that in this modern age every individual share anything  abnormal, hilarious which occurs around them. And have started to recognise how much credit is given to every main source. Here is a important link from highly ranked sources agreeing with me journalists need to close the gap if the are to be important in this age

According to    Bivins, T.H. (2014). 8th Edition. Public relations writing: The essentials of style and format. New York: Mc Graw Hill.  Journalist involves a good writer or a news researcher that searchers news from different sources combining a perfect match and sharing it with the public. What would you say if I’m telling you that we live in the world where people recognise the opportunity of making money or creating a living threw selling and sharing news? So  me as a web 2.0 user I search news by scrolling down threw my social networks such as twitter and Facebook collect from different sources that posted about the same topic and share how I understand the statements and create myself a source by doing so .it’s possible that I’m also a journalist of different type. Just imagine how many people are doing the same thing as mine and tell me we still need journalists in the age of social media? Because I disagree and say we don’t need them
